Went down to the pier with Shane and Elisabeth right before graduation. Elisabeth is from Montreal and has been out here on an exchange student program, she’s way cool.

picked up an apollo softbox the other day to start playing around with off camera flash a little bit. I headed out with Shane for a quick afternoon session the other day and got a few that I liked. I’ve got a long way to go before I really understand it all. Pretty good learning curve on OCF but if you’re interested check out the strobist blog, it’s pretty much the bible for OCF.

Jenny and Lily are in town right now which makes for some big fun at bath time.
Stopped by my sister’s house this afternoon to beat up my brother -in-law playing xbox, but the light was nice so I grabbed a few of my niece Cassidy while she was out playing with Oscar the chihuahua.

Had to go down to Sorrento Valley today for a meeting so I took 101 down from Encinitas. This is as far as I could go before I had to cut over and head into SV. That’s as good of an excuse as any to stop and shoot one of my favorite bridges. Most SD locals know this is Torrey Pines state beach, looking up to the bluffs.

No, I didn’t win a leg lamp, but I did end up winning a little online photo competition the other day that was held on David Nightingale’s photoblog, Chromasia. I was really stoked about it too because David’s photography has been a big inspiration to me over the last couple of years. Check out his stuff when you get a second, it’s really amazing. Anyway the category for the competition was “Creative Point of View” and the idea was to take a shot from an interesting or unusual angle. It’s been a couple of years since I took this shot, and while I was never blown away with the shot technically, I always did kind of like to “feel” of it. Here is my shot as well as the first and second runner’s up, and a slighty larger version of it here.
I came home today to find my prize on the doorstep. It’s a Lensbaby composer kit along with the additional Optic kit that they make. I’ve never used this lens but I’ve seen some people that can get some pretty cool stuff out of them, so I’ll see what I can do with it. It’s a bit of a novelty but I do kinda like the tilt-shift and pinhole looks it can create.

Another thing kind of interesting to me is how you have to manually change out the apertures on it. It’s kind of cool to actually see what f/22 looks like compared to f/2.8.

Hooked up with my nephew the other day for a little impromptu photoshoot over at the park near his house, we got some keepers for sure. As soon as I get my flash trigger issues sorted we’ll hit it up again for some more and play around with some off camera flash stuff.

I could use some. Been really busy at work the last couple of weeks and haven’t been able to get out to shoot at all. Maybe some new gear would help get me out there? ha
It’s been way too damn cold lately. Thought I’d put up something that reminds me of warmer days… Payton and friends.

I can’t stop watching this new teaser vid from Vincent LaForet. . Check it out, he creates some really amazing stuff. He even uses the new Canon 5D mk2 for portions of this video.
